# Websites, applications, tools > Designed with love in Farnborough ### Web design FAQs How does it take to design and develop a website? The timeline depends on the project’s scope. A basic website might take 4-6 weeks, while a more complex site could take several months. After understanding your requirements, we’ll provide an estimated timeline. How much does a website cost? The cost of a website varies depending on its complexity, features, and design requirements. After discussing your needs, we’ll provide a detailed quote tailored to your project. Will my website be mobile-friendly and responsive? Yes, all our websites are fully responsive and optimized for mobile devices to ensure a seamless user experience across all screen sizes. Can I update the website content myself once it's built? Absolutely! We build websites using user-friendly Content Management Systems (CMS) like WordPress, which allow you to easily update and manage content. However, after consultation, we often find our clients don’t actually need this, and a static site meets their needs. Will my website be optimised for search engines (SEO)? We implement basic SEO best practices during development to enhance your site’s visibility. We offer additional services for advanced SEO strategies. Do you provide hosting and domain registration services? We offer secure website and maintenance packages for all our clients. Who owns the website once it's completed? Upon full payment, you will own the website, including all design elements, code, and content we’ve created for you. What do you need from me to get started? We’ll need any existing branding materials (like logos and color schemes), content (text, images, videos), and information about your goals and target audience. Can you integrate e-commerce functionality into my website? Yes, we have experience building e-commerce websites and can integrate shopping carts, payment gateways, and other necessary features. How many design revisions are included? Our packages typically include a set number of revisions (e.g., two to three rounds). We’ll specify this in our proposal so you know what’s included. Will my website be secure and protected from hackers? We implement security best practices, including SSL certificates and secure coding standards. For enhanced security, we offer additional services like regular security audits. Can you help with content creation and copywriting? Yes, we offer content creation services to ensure your website effectively communicates your message and engages your audience. Will my website be compatible with all browsers? We test our websites on all major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) to ensure compatibility and a consistent user experience. How will we communicate during the project? We can communicate via email, phone calls, or virtual meetings, depending on your preference. We’ll establish a communication plan that suits your needs. Do you have a portfolio of previous work I can review? Yes, we’d be happy to share our portfolio showcasing 2 decades of previous projects. You can see the latest projects on this page. What is your payment schedule? Typically, we require a deposit to start the project, with the remaining balance due upon completion. We’ll outline the payment terms in our proposal. Can you provide training on how to use the CMS? Yes, we offer training sessions to teach you how to manage and update your website using the Content Management System. What happens if I need changes after the website is launched? We offer post-launch support and can assist with any updates or changes you need. This can be covered under a maintenance plan or billed hourly. How do you ensure the website meets my business goals? We begin by understanding your objectives and target audience. Throughout the project, we’ll align the design and functionality to support your goals and keep you involved for feedback and adjustments.   ### Stay in the Loop: How Our Web Design Agency Ensures Clear Communication Every Step of the Way Effective communication is the cornerstone of any successful project, especially in web design, where collaboration and understanding are essential. We recognise the frustration that stems from a lack of clear communication—missed messages, ambiguous updates, and feeling left out of the loop on your project. That's why our web design agency prioritises transparent and consistent communication throughout the entire web design process. From the first consultation, you'll have a dedicated point of contact readily available to address your questions and provide timely updates. We utilise project management tools that allow you to monitor real-time progress, upcoming milestones, and any outstanding tasks related to your web design project. Regular meetings are scheduled at your convenience to discuss developments, gather feedback, and ensure we're aligned with your vision for the web design. We believe in proactive communication. Rather than waiting for you to reach out, we keep you informed about every significant development in your web design project. This approach keeps you in the loop and allows for timely adjustments, ensuring the final web design meets your expectations. Our team is trained to explain technical aspects of web design in clear, understandable terms, so you're never puzzled by jargon. We provide visual aids, mock-ups, and prototypes to illustrate concepts, ensuring you clearly understand how your website will look and function. Your understanding is crucial to us, and we're committed to making web design accessible and straightforward. ### Your Vision, Our Mission: Embracing Flexibility in Web Design There's nothing more frustrating than feeling like your input isn't valued or that changes are met with resistance. At our web design agency, your feedback is not just welcomed—it's essential. We understand that flexibility is crucial to creating a web design that truly reflects your brand and meets your needs. From the initial consultation to the final launch, we encourage open dialogue and iterative feedback on your web design. Our process is structured to include multiple review stages, where your thoughts and suggestions are integrated into the project. We use collaborative tools that allow you to see progress in real-time and provide comments directly on the web design elements. We also understand that ideas can evolve. Our web design agency is committed to transparent, upfront pricing with no hidden surprises. During our initial discussions about your web design needs, we'll provide a detailed proposal outlining all costs associated with your project. This includes design, development, revisions, and any additional web design services you may require. We break down each element so you understand exactly where your investment in web design is going. If you request additional features or changes during the project that may affect the cost, we'll communicate this immediately and provide options to keep the web design project within your budget. We aim to work collaboratively to achieve your goals without causing financial strain, ensuring the web design process is stress-free. By maintaining open and honest communication about pricing in web design, we alleviate your fear of budget overruns. We recognise the frustration of inadequate SEO in web design, which leads to poor online visibility. Our web design agency incorporates effective SEO strategies into every website we build to enhance your search engine rankings and attract more potential customers. We start with thorough keyword research to identify the terms your audience is searching for, focusing on web design relevance. Our developers then optimise the site's structure, meta tags, and content to align with these keywords. We also ensure that the site is mobile-friendly and has fast loading times, which are factors in search engine rankings. Additionally, we can provide ongoing SEO services within our web design offerings, including content creation and backlink strategies, to further boost your visibility over time. We aim to make your web design work for you by driving traffic and increasing engagement. Integrating SEO best practices into web design alleviates your fear of your website not attracting potential customers. Our web design team selects or customises a CMS that best suits your needs, providing a straightforward interface for tasks like editing text, uploading images, and adding new pages or blog posts. We also offer training sessions to ensure you feel confident using the system. Our goal is to make web design accessible and manageable for you. By giving you control over your content through thoughtful web design, we alleviate your fear of dependence on developers for simple updates. You can keep your website fresh and relevant without unnecessary delays or expenses, allowing you to respond quickly to market changes and customer needs. Empowering you with the tools and knowledge to manage your website is a key aspect of our web design services. We believe that collaboration and autonomy lead to better outcomes, and we're dedicated to providing web design solutions that put you in the driver's seat. ### The Daru Club eCommerce Store now Live! With the array of social media platforms ever-growing, it's hard to know where to focus your limited time. You could just go full send and post all of your content on every social media platform and that may work for you. However, focus is essential for social success. By focusing on the platform that’s right for your business you will enjoy a higher engagement rate with the right kinds of clients. There’s one simple question to answer… Q. Is my business B2B or B2C? A. B2B LinkedIn If you are a B2B business then without a shadow of a doubt LinkedIn is your go-to place. The best bang for the buck place to hang out and attract new business. Advertising on linked in is definitely worth a shot for you. Go there, spend some time testing and learning and it will pay dividends. A. B2C Facebook & Instagram You get double bubble here as you can cross-post and advertise between the two. This is where the consumers hang out so it’s time to hang out with them. Create groups around your unique niche, get involved and share your voice. With a Facebook store, you can sell directly from your page or even messenger. - But what about TikTok? TikTok is growing fast and should not be ignored if you are a B2C business then having a presence on TikTok will become essential. The audience age is growing too, starting out with the kids their parents soon clicked with it and shared the stoke. If you are creating video content then posting here too is a must. Twitter? A Twitter presence is a must for all even if you don’t use it daily. Help keep your clients updated on news - good or bad. Keep them in the loop and use as a first response support tool which gives maximum transparency. A place to show off your customer service skills. ### The Borough Coffee Co. Shop is live! It would then be taken o that machine and printed on the back if required or stored. Then it would be taken to a finishing machine to have either laminate or cold foil (silver effect) applied. Once laminate applied and cured, this generally needs time to “set”, it would then stored again. You may then apply a varnish (gloss or matt) Then it would be taken to a die cutter and cut out into the shape for the package, embossed for braille. This requires a large amount of time and effort to achieve a final product. Generally offset or sheetfed printing provides a much finer, high-quality print, however, the cost of production is much higher. The substrate is loaded on one end of the machine on the unwind, the operator has set the registration settings and pressure and Inking settings which can be pre-programmed. The substrate is sent through the web transport. It is printed on the top and then a turn bar can be used to flip the substrate over and print on the back. Varnish, cold foil and laminate can also be applied on the same pass on separate print stations. It can then be embossed, and die cut through our Flatbed die cutter. What comes out the end is a whole finished product ready to be checked and packed. The single pass method can remove the need for multiple operators and can be done much quicker. However the print quality may be slightly less, there are methods to increase the quality such as advanced sophisticated registration camera systems, however, these are a high investment. However the process is significantly shorter and in the long run, save costs. Also, a wider range of substrates can be used such as unsupported film. ### Website Development - Sanctuary Inusurance Website development for Sanctuary Insurance Sanctuary is a Lloyd’s insurance broker offering a wide range of bespoke insurance and risk solutions for corporate, commercial and international clients as well as agents both in the UK and abroad. But, localise that search to ‘business insurance Farnborough’ and you will drastically improve your chances. Optimising for local search is a vital weapon in the small business armoury. Local results are shown to those who search for businesses and places near their location. The results generated by these searches appear in the organic search results and Google Maps, and could become a reliable and lucrative revenue stream. To give your business the best chance of becoming a big deal in your local area, you need to tick all the right boxes. Then, and only then, will your business feature prominently in local search. Give Google all the information it needs The more information you provide about your business, the more relevant your business will become in the eyes of Google. You need to enter all your business information in Google My Business, including what you do, where you are and when you are open. Google will ask for your physical address, phone number and business category. Make sure all the information you provide is accurate and up to date. Verify your location The next step is to verify that the information you have provided is correct. Depending on the type of business you run, there will be one or more verification options open to you. This could include: Verification by postcard Verification by phone Instant verification Bulk verification (if you have 10 or more locations) Once you’ve verified your information, you’ll be asked to review your details and make any final changes. Here’s the official spiel from Google if you need a little help: https://www.youtube.com/embed/2sObwsdA1FE Customers may choose to leave reviews about your business. Replying to these reviews can help to build customer trust and ultimately raise your profile (the better the reviews, the higher you’re likely to rank). You should respond to reviews with genuine, helpful responses. And remember, any responses you post will be public, so keep it polite, relevant and free from colourful language. Add some snaps If you‘ve already read our post about the power of visual marketing, you’ll understand that a couple of pictures of your business can attract customers and help to tell your story. Images can also show prospective customers that you can supply the products or services they need. How does Google determine your relevance in local search? Google’s algorithms take a number of factors into account when determining the ranking of businesses for local search terms. This includes the business’s distance from the user, its prominence and relevance to the search. Relevance The more Google knows about your business, the better. Google wants to provide users with the most relevant results to their search. The closer the information contained in your local is to the search, the higher you are likely to rank. Distance There are no tricks here. Google will favour businesses that are closer to the location of the searcher. If the user searches for ‘shoe shops in Farnborough’, and you have a shoe shop located slap bang in the middle of Farnborough, you stand an excellent chance of ranking. Prominence Google will take into account a number of different factors to determine how prominent it believes your business to be. The number of positive reviews your business has received, the amount of quality content on your website and the number of links you have will all be taken into account. Your adherence to SEO best practices will also boost your local ranking. Is it time you took local search seriously? At DGTL, we can transform your business from a local flop to a hotshot in your target area. Combining SEO best practice with quality content and a little local know-how can give your business the boost it needs. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements with our team. ### The Power of Images and the Rise of Visual Marketing There’s plenty of truth in the saying ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’. There’s a fundamental difference in the way our brains process images and words. Our visual system has evolved to process images essentially in parallel, whereas text, which only appeared a few thousands ago, must be processed one character at a time. The result is that our brains process images 60,000 times faster than words, conveying complex ideas and emotions that stay with us for longer than words on a page. This is great for digital marketing purposes. This biological leaning towards images is a prominent factor in the rise of the Facebook-owned photo sharing platform, Instagram. From January 2013 to September 2015, the number of Instagram users quadrupled, from 90 million to more than 400 million. At the end of 2015, there were 14 million active Instagram users in the UK, and this meteoric rise looks set to continue. Digital Marketing: The rise of visual marketing online Instagram is best suited to lifestyle brands that target younger consumers, typically the under 30s. One of the main attractions for Instagram users is the ease with which pictures can be uploaded and shared. This has helped Instagram carve out its ever expanding niche.   While Instagram is now the biggest and arguably the best photo sharing platform, it was not the first to tread this highly visual path. The first visual marketing platform of this type was Tumblr, which was followed by Pinterest, a popular picture sharing site that allows users to ‘pin’ or ‘re-pin’ pictures of interest. The intent behind the use of these platforms differs, so it’s important you choose the right tool to sell your brand. While Pinterest is used by people to visually showcase their dreams and desires by creating a pictorial ‘wish list’, Instagram is predominantly a tool for users to document their lives.    The power of visual content Just a few years ago, embracing visual content simply meant putting a couple of pictures in your blog. Now, images are no longer just an afterthought. Lifestyle brands that produce a regular stream of high quality visual content are reaping the rewards, and with Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook, they have the perfect tools for the job. One of the real benefits of a visual marketing campaign is the potential for user-generated content. This means your users can effectively do the job of marketing your brand for you. Until recently, very few brands understood just how powerful user-generated content could be, but now they’re finally starting to embrace this customer-led digital marketing opportunity. Authenticity above all else The real benefit of user-generated content (UGC) is its unmatched authenticity. According to research from Olapic, 66 percent of UK consumers seek out UGC when deciding which products to buy; while 39 percent of UK customers are more likely to buy clothing that’s been ‘modelled’ by another customer.    http://legacy.dgtl.agency/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/liquidProof.mp4 [av_hr class='invisible' height='10' shadow='no-shadow' position='center' custom_border='av-border-thin' custom_width='50px' custom_border_color='' custom_margin_top='30px' custom_margin_bottom='30px' icon_select='yes' custom_icon_color='' icon='ue808' font='entypo-fontello' av_uid='av-36jgn8'] Instagram #liquiproof The conversion rates show just how powerful user-generated content can be, with 4.6 percent of customers making a purchase when photos of customers are used. This jumps to a conversion rate of 9.6 percent when shoppers actually interact with the customer photos. The same effect can be seen when UGC is used in Facebook ads, with some brands experiencing a 50 percent increase in click-through rate. While the visual content landscape will undoubtedly evolve in the next few years, the principals behind visual content are unlikely to change. Customers want to interact with content they can trust. They are inundated with adverts and other marketing messages, but prefer to seek out user-generated content they can engage with. Brands that understand the power of UGC can use this supply of fresh, cost effective imagery to drive their digital marketing in 2016. Nowadays, if your content’s not going ‘viral’ then you could be guilty of producing ‘spam’. And if you don’t know your ‘hashtags’ from your ‘memes’, you might need a little refresh. uk.movies.yahoo.com One form of content that has taken the online world by storm is the GIF. The term GIF is an acronym of ‘graphics interchange format’, which is a bitmap image format. With so many different forms of content hitting the internet at an alarming speed, content marketers are always on the look out for the next great way to cut through the noise. Research into the online data explosion reveals that, every minute: Facebook users share nearly 2.5 million pieces of content Twitter users tweet nearly 300,000 times Instagram users post nearly 220,000 new photos YouTube users upload 72 hours of new video content Apple users download nearly 50,000 apps Email users send over 200 million messages In today’s fast-moving, mobile-centric world, image based content which is easy to understand and eminently shareable can help you make your mark in even the most crowded markets. So, could the image-video hybrid, the GIF, be the next best way to engage your customers and fans?    Some GIF examples The good news that as well as paying for GIFs that have been created and licensed for use by third parties, there’s also a decent stockpile of free GIFs you can use courtesy of Wikimedia Commons.   In today’s age of instant gratification and shortening attention spans, this medium demands more attention than an image, without demanding the commitment of a video. What more do you need? Here’s how a well placed GIF can spruce up your content… 1 Add some personality The value of a GIF lies in its unique ability to express complex concepts or emotions in just a few seconds. GIFs draw on a tremendously diverse range of cultural references that let your company’s culture shine through. Whether you get creative, be clever, or choose to showcase your fantastic sense of humour, GIFs are an incredibly effective way to inject stale content with a little personality. 2 Bring data to life Presenting complex data in interesting and engaging ways can be particularly problematic for some online businesses. Brands and news outlets are increasingly turning to the GIF to solve this problem. GIFs can be used to animate maps, concepts and diagrams to make data more digestible and entertaining. 3 Create educational resources The image-video format of a GIF lends itself perfectly to informative, educational and instructional guides. For example, if you’re producing a guide to explain how to use a new tool or product, what better way than via the GIF? Adding a visual component to the instructions in this way can help deliver information concisely, and keep the audience engaged for longer. To GIF or not to GIF? Research has shown that humans process visual information much faster than written content, and are also much more likely to remember it in the long-term. For this reason, a GIF can be the perfect way to bring a little life to your content. As we’ve shown, there are plenty of GIFs you can use completely free of charge, adding value to your content without costing you a penny. The Cinemagraph A cinemagraph isn’t your ordinary GIF, think of it more like a living photograph. It is an amalgamation of the still image and animated GIF. Parts of the image are isolated and can be seen as moving. Conversely, other parts of the image are left static. This stark contrast of movement and static imagery mean that certain features of a cinemagraph can appear as though they are stuck in time. The result? An eye catching piece of media that’s great for social media marketing (if done right!). How can we help? Need a little expert assistance incorporating GIFs or Cinemagraphs into your content or digital marketing campaign? First things first, we’re firm believers that there is no such thing as a ‘boring’ business. Every industry is interesting to someone, with plenty of opportunities to create informative, relevant content that might not always be exciting, but will still be incredibly valuable. The truth is that helpful things are rarely boring, even if objectively they might be a bit dull. Of course, in certain industries it is a lot easier to create a buzz and build on the level of interest that already exists. But in what we might term ‘drier’ industries, there are still plenty of opportunities out there; you just have to work a bit harder. There’s no such thing as a boring business Boring content isn’t boring to the people who need it. Some businesses believe a content marketing agency won’t be able to help them because their industry is bland, but that really isn’t the case. Effective marketing produces sales, regardless of the industry you operate in. On the surface of it, the company selling snowboards is more interesting than your insurance business. But if you’re willing to get creative and trust a content marketing agency to do their work, your insurance business can be relevant, informative and interesting too. Here are three tips to keep in mind when creating content for your ‘boring’ business… 1. Capitalise on the opportunities If you operate in a boring industry then believe it or not, in terms of content marketing, you are actually at a distinct advantage. While there will be hundreds of pieces of content targeting every keyword in more glamorous industries, competition for keywords and topics in your industry is likely to be low. This means you can enjoy excellent search engine rankings for the content you produce without too much hard work. This presents an excellent opportunity for your business, allowing you to carve out a niche and become an industry authority without having to spend a fortune. That’s an opportunity businesses in more exciting industries simply don’t have. 2. Keep content relevant As it can be more difficult to brainstorm ideas for businesses in less exciting industries, the temptation is to create content that’s less relevant in the search for backlinks. We’d advise you to steer well clear of this strategy. Instead, you should focus on producing high quality, relevant content that serves a genuine purpose by answering your prospective customers’ questions. Even if link building opportunities are few and far between, it’s better to build a reputation as an industry authority, rather than going in search of users who are not part of your target market. 3. Inform your readers  Consumers in every industry love data that provides them with new insights and shapes their purchasing decisions. Presenting this data in clear and compelling ways, such as infographics, charts and images, is a great way to grab their attention and keep it. Framing your content in such an attractive and readable way also makes it more shareable, thereby increasing traffic and spiking interest in your supposedly ‘boring’ business. How can we help? DGTL is a web design and content marketing agency that helps a diverse range of businesses capture the attention they need online. Websites with thin content and lots of ads were shunned in favour of those that were stacked full of relevant, high quality content that met their users’ needs. Ever since, webmasters in the know have been filling their website with top quality content in a bid to help their customers and work their way up the search engine rankings. Quality content marketing is not something that can be done without planning. Creating content for the sake of content marketing, without thinking about how it should be structured, presented or delivered, is a waste of resources and time. Putting a strategic plan into place helps to focus your resources and maximise the effectiveness of your content marketing. What is a content marketing strategy? A content marketing strategy is the high-level vision that guides the development of content against a specific business objective. It dictates the planning, creation, delivery and governance of content to produce online assets that are well structured, easily found and can improve the user experience of a website. Content marketing strategy basics In more simple terms, a content strategy will help you identify what content already exists, the gaps in the market, and customer questions that are going unanswered. In this context, the term ‘content’ refers to infographics, white papers, videos, online guides, how-tos and anything else that helps your users. To draw up a successful content strategy, you need to focus on the content you intend to create, and the people responsible for creating it. The content – Identify your goals and think about the types of content that will help you achieve them. This includes the most appropriate content type (videos, blogs, guides etc), the intended audience, the voice and the tone. You also need to think about how the content will be structured to make it accessible for the user. The creators – Focus on who is responsible for managing and maintaining the content and draw up a calendar that dictates when it will be created. You should think about the standards and guidelines that will frame the content creation process, and how the content will be managed throughout its lifecycle.       The content lifecycle The beauty of content marketing is that once it’s posted, it’s online forever. This makes it an extremely cost effective form of marketing. It can also appreciate with age, working its way up through the search engine rankings as the content matures. The lifecycle of content can be mapped in the following way: Audit - Take a look at your current content and identify the gaps. What questions do your customers frequently ask? If you’re not answering these questions online, someone else will. Strategy – What are your particular areas of expertise? Think of the topics you can write about with confidence and create a workflow for your content production. You should also define your brand’s tone and voice. Plan – Carry out keyword research to identify terms that attract plenty of search but have low levels of competition. Think about metadata, sourcing pictures and where you’ll publish the content. Create – Now it’s time to write the content. Make sure all content is optimised and proofed before it’s published online. Maintain – Plan to audit and update published content to keep it relevant and fresh. Are there any pieces of content that are performing particularly well? Perhaps you can create similar content in the future? Following these content strategy basics will help you create meaningful and relevant content that: Reflects the culture and goals of your business Communicates with customers in a way they understand Can easily be found through the search engines and your internal navigational structure Is genuinely useful Is up-to-date, relevant and factual Is consistent with your brand Drop us a line Want to know more about how a content strategy can help you achieve your business goals? Websites with... ### Examples of Good SEO Practice We’ve found out What SEO is, now lets take a look at some examples of good SEO practices. Below you will find a selection of tips to improve your understanding of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). These are not definitive rules but implementable guidelines that focus on long term online success. Fresh Content There is no such thing as a finished website. By striving to consistently add and improve web pages you are more likely to rank higher in searches, attract a higher volume of visitors and thus generate more sales as a result. As the old saying goes ‘Content is king’. Higher page viewing times mean search engines are more likely to give your site a higher ranking. Baring this in mind, it pays to have content your customers can engage with for longer periods of time. Adding a blog to your website is one of the simplest ways to keep your website fresh with new content. Consider a ‘News’ section, also. When adding in optimised keywords into your content, it’s crucial that you stick to an appropriate density. For text that measures 300 words should generally use a keyword density of between 1-3%. Any more and you risk being penalised for ‘keyword stuffing’. This all assumes you have your own content to use. If you're running a little short we have a wealth of experience when it comes to generating content How to get Higher on Google   Search engine algorithms (the robots that rank your website) are forever changing. As per Google’s CEO, Eric Schmidt, in 2010, Google made over 500 algorithm changes. That’s 1.5 per day! No one quite knows the exact ins and outs of any search engine algorithm but we can look at their objective and deduce a plan of action from that. The goal of any search engine is to match the searcher with the most appropriate website based on their search criteria. Search engines like Google and Yahoo generate income from PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising – You know, those ads you see placed around the organic search results? So, by attracting more visitors, search engines have more chance of a searcher clicking a PPC ad, thus generating profit. Based on this incentive of matching up searchers with the perfect website, your time is better spent making an original website tailored to people. Tailoring your website to just look good to those pesky ranking robots is bad SEO practice. Keywords Keywords play a massive part in SEO. With keywords being so important, it’s crucial that the process is well thought out and executed correctly. Keywords filter in to most other SEO practices in one way or another. It starts with keyword research. Trying to rank for any random keyword or keyword phrase is like playing a game of roulette – A big gamble that you are likely to lose out on. It’s important to find a niche. A keyword phrase that has a good search volume and a relatively low level of competition. It’s not quite that simple but that’s a great place to start. Optimising your website for long tail keywords is definitely worth considering, particularly if you are just starting out and can’t compete with the ‘big fish’. Despite having lower search volumes, long tail keywords are easier to rank for and are very specific. Whatever service or product you offer, the more specific the search term, the more likely they are looking for exactly what you have to offer. It’s all about RESEARCH! And plenty of it. We can help you with this. Image ALT Text First and foremost, ALT text should be descriptive in such a way that it can help visitors. If an image doesn’t load properly, or if the viewer has a condition that affects their cognition, the ALT text should communicate to them what the image represents. This is also an opportunity to add in an optimised keyword as search engines do take them into account. It’s important not to overdo it though as this can incur penalties. H1 Tags and Hierarchy Header tags, or h1 tags are more often than not the title of a particular page or post. It will usually be the largest text on the page and needs to briefly describe what the corresponding page is about. Search engines take the h1 tag into consideration when ranking your website. There are also h2, h3, h4 etc. The idea is to use them to form a hierarchy down each page. As you go down the chain, less emphasis is put on each. Each header tag you use is a great opportunity to get the right keywords in and attract the right visitors to your page. ### Examples of Bad SEO Practice Bad SEO techniques will almost certainly end in failure. By attempting to game the system one of two things will usually happen. Either you will be penalised by search engines and ranked down or you will find short term success that will be undone with subsequent algorithm updates. These techniques are commonly referred to as Black hat SEO, with the exception of duplicate content and content light pages as these are often genuine oversights. Although less common these days, agencies still implement these techniques in the hope of gaining short term, unsustainable success. They are reckless, risky, and can seriously damage a company. The list below should only be used as a reference. Keyword Stuffing Trying to cram in too many keyword phrases can work against you. Not only is the passage of text less likely to read well, search engines are also more likely to penalise you. Striking a balance is the key here. A keyword density of between 1-3% is the generally accepted way of doing things. Invisible Text Using invisible text to cram keywords into a web page is a practice that was once heavily used. Before search engines put policies in place to ban this technique, the internet was rife with websites using it. Example: You’ve created a web page that has a background colour of #FFFFFF, aka white. You would then place text on the page with an ever so slightly darker shade of white, like #FFFFF0, aka off-white. This makes the text virtually invisible to a human reader but search engine crawlers would read it as normal. Pages with too Little Content Content-light pages with short page view times can sometimes result in search engines downgrading your keyword rankings. Better to merge these pages together logically or add to them. Aim for a minimum of 250 words per page. Cloaking In a nutshell – The content presented to a search engine spider is different from that presented to a user’s browser. The most common way of doing this is basing the content presented on the IP address of the spider or user accessing the website. Cloaking is often used to try and trick a search engine into giving the specific website a higher ranking. Other uses are ranking a website for a different search term than the page content shows. Duplicate Content Having content that is the same, or very similar, on multiple pages can incur a penalty to search results. If your duplicate content is on an external blog, for instance Tumblr, its important to link the original source (the one you want to have the ranking juice for) at the top or bottom of each post. This prevents penalties from duplicate content. Paid Links Slow and steady wins the race. Attempting to buy backlinks from people openly selling them may offer some short term success but the method itself is irrelevant and unsustainable. Better to acquire quality backlinks over time. These will likely be more useful in the long run, more relevant to your business, and won’t incur any penalties. ### Responsive & Mobile Friendly Web Design Before we start it’s important to go over the recent changes to Google’s ranking algorithm regarding mobile friendly websites. In a nutshell the update will give priority ranking to websites that are in some way optimised for mobile browsing. This has been appropriately dubbed ‘Mobilegeddon’. Google has begun rolling this update out to data centres as of April 24th 2015. With Mobilegeddon on the way it’s vitally important you assess your business's mobile strategy. So, with that being said, what is Responsive and Mobile Friendly Web design? Responsive Web Design Mobile internet usage has never been so popular. Although desktop internet browsing remains the favourite, Responsive Web Design caters to both these giants. Responsive web design is a way of adapting the layout of a website through the use of flexible images, CSS3 media queries, and proportion-based grids. This enables an optimal viewing experience across the spectrum of different platforms. Responsive website design is different than just a separate iteration of a website built for mobile. It unifies desktop and mobile browsing in a flexible manner, meaning the domain name and website content are consistent across all platforms. The Advantages: Content can be managed on one domain. Flexibility - Responsive web design enables content to move freely across all screen resolutions and devices. Consistent user experience across all platforms Sites optimised for mobile use are given additional ranking power by Google as per the Mobilegeddon update. Cost effective - Having a responsive website developed is more cost effect than having a separate desktop and mobile iteration of that site. We cannot emphasise enough just how important it is to cater to the mobile market. Responsive web design is a relatively new technology. As with anything new it can come with it’s fair share of drawbacks. What it really boils down to is complexity. Complexity in programming a responsive website which inevitably leads to a longer development time, and complexity in managing content. For instance, using a whacking great image on a desktop is fine but when browsing on a mobile device data allowances must be taken into account. That being said, responsive web design done properly can avoid such issues or have appropriate workarounds put in place. Mobile Friendly Web Design Mobile friendly web design, as the name suggests, refers to any website that is optimised for mobile browsing. This could be a dedicated mobile site or a responsive site that can accommodate both mobile and desktop viewing. As mobile friendly web design can fall under the responsive umbrella, let’s have a look at the advantages you can expect to achieve with a dedicated mobile website: The advantages of a dedicated mobile site: Content will be geared towards speed and on minimising mobile data usage The site is specifically optimised with the mobile user in mind, taking into account interaction methods like touch screens and certain limitations like screen resolutions and sizes. One of the major drawbacks of a dedicated mobile site is cost. Although the cost of a mobile site is not much different than that of a desktop counterpart, responsive web design can hit two birds with one stone, reducing your cost in the long run. Conclusion If you are serious about your business you need a responsive website. With the recent changes to Google’s ranking algorithm affecting mobile friendly websites you need to put yourself in the best possible position to rank highly. Mobile browsing is now so popular that you cannot afford to miss out on the mobile market. Responsive web design is cost effective and a surefire way to future proof your businesses online presence. Yahoo! put forward a proposal for extending their successful Lifestyle property with a special sponsored section aimed at parents. The 'Mazda Mums' site featured a number of articles with useful tips on parenting in general and motoring advice for families. To help drive traffic to the site (if you'll excuse the pun), Mazda Mums also included a competition, with entrants being asked to supply their top tip for travelling with children. These tips were then displayed around the site, with a simple voting mechanism to bubble popular entries to the top of lists. Users could also publish their entries to social media such as Twitter and Facebook. Dgtl worked with Yahoo! to refine their proposal, going through mockup and wireframe and then continued on through build stages through to delivery & launch. As with all of Yahoo's development projects, the site was based on their custom build of PHP, and employed their own profanity filtering extension and abuse reporting mechanism. The site was a great success, and generated a huge amount of traffic on the Yahoo! network, so much so that it warranted a mention in Carol Bartz' (Yahoo! CEO) keynote speech at the Internet Advertising Bureau 2010 conference. Designed and developed in our web design Farnborough, Hampshire studio. ### David Beckham Interview Website Development & Localisation [av_video src='http://player.vimeo.com/video/61173914' format='custom' width='12' height='8' av_uid='av-27l8zq'] A huge campaign - The world interviews David Beckham, via Yahoo. The web design took into account competition mechanics and secure hosting of this competition micro-site. If you'd like to see a demo of the site we invite you to do so using the following link - See a demo. Design and development of this project took place right here in our Farnborough, Hampshire  website design studio. ### I am Nikon - competition website development As part of it's extensive community activity Nikon asked Yahoo! to build a sponsored competition page aimed primarily at Flickr users and promoting their current I AM NIKON campaign. The competition required that entrants submit up to three photos, each capturing one of the three themes: I AM BRAVE, I AM PART OF THE WORLD and I AM THE PERFECT MOMENT. Yahoo! supplied initial designs for the site to Dgtl and we proceeded to make them a reality, developing the necessary HTML/CSS and PHP to bring it to life. The competition entry flow was particularly complex, requiring competition entrants to join a specially created group on Flickr, and submit at least one photo to it. We used visual cues, a dynamic form and modal dialogs to ensure the user always knew exactly where they were in the process. We used the Flickr API to determine whether or not the entrant was in the appropriate group and had submitted any photos, and then retrieved those photos for display in the competition form. Each week the best entries were selected for display in an animated 'recent entries' carousel displayed in the page. Designed, with love, in our Farnborough, Hampshire design studio.     ### Greece - Rich Media Advertising- Web Design Farnborough [av_video src='http://player.vimeo.com/video/98923822' format='16-9' width='16' height='9' av_uid='av-2k9kgc'] An exciting project working with 'Visit Greece' in association with Yahoo! featuring; Web design, Rich media advertising design, Flash development, Bespoke Tumblr theme and localisation. UI & UX Design FAQs You've work with some big brands, does that mean you're expensive? Not at all; the experience we’ve gained working on UI & UX Design projects with global giants means we can share that learning with you. We are agile, cost-effective, and, most importantly, UI & UX Design experts who global brands trust to deliver exceptional projects. What is the difference between UI and UX design? UI design (user interface design) deals with the visual elements that users interact with, such as buttons, icons, and layouts, while UX design (user experience design) focuses on the overall feel of the product and how users interact with it. Why is user research important in UI & UX design? User research helps us understand your users’ needs, motivations, and pain points. By incorporating this research into our UI & UX design process, we create solutions that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional and user-friendly. What tools do you use for prototyping? We primarily use Figma for creating interactive user interface designs and UX prototypes. Figma allows us to collaborate in real-time with clients and developers, ensuring that the design aligns with the product vision and business goals. How long does the design process take? The timeline depends on the project’s scope and complexity, but typically, our process includes several iterations of UI design, UX design, and user testing. Initial designs are usually completed within 4 to 6 weeks, with additional time for feedback and revisions. Can you work with my development team? Yes, we collaborate closely with development teams to ensure the UI design and UX design are implemented seamlessly. Using Figma, developers have access to all necessary design files, which helps maintain alignment throughout the build process. © 2025 DGTL LTD - Privacy - Terms & Conditions ### 1-to-1 UX Consulting Sessions UX Consulting Unlock your full potential with 1-to-1 UX Consulting. WordPress developmentWe’ve been building WordPress themes and plug-ins for as long as we can remember (well, almost), and it remains a firm favourite with our designers and developers here at Dgtl HQ.Despite its heritage as a blogging tool, WordPress has gone from strength to strength in recent years to become a good all-around CMS platform. It is particularly well suited for small—to medium-sized blogging and marketing sites. The content-creating and editing tools are feature-rich and user-friendly; in our view, they are WordPress’s single most significant strength. We’re also big fans of the Yoast SEO plugin, an essential tool for understanding how search engines will see your site’s pages and ensuring they are optimised for your target keywords. Drupal developmentDrupal is a household name in Content Management Systems and is currently powering some of the Web’s best-known websites. We’ve been building sites in Drupal for many years, from Intranet sites and applications to The National Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park, so we’re well-equipped to take on your next Drupal project. Although Drupal can also be used for small to medium blogs and marketing sites, it excels as a platform for more significant community-oriented sites where visitor contribution is a crucial goal and features a comprehensive and granular permissions system that offers far greater flexibility than WordPress. HTML emailEmail marketing is still a big deal, and the most successful campaigns need the visual appeal only an HTML email can provide. Building attractive email campaigns that look good on the broadest possible range of email clients and devices is like stepping back to the Web's earliest days—and the original “Browser wars”. Luckily for us, we were building sites back then, too (and we’ve got the grey hairs to prove it), so we’re well-equipped to take on the challenge. Bespoke Web developmentNot every web site or application can or should be built in a fully baked content management system or an ‘off the shelf’ framework. Sometimes, only a completely custom solution will do, and we’re certainly not afraid to “roll our own” when the project calls for it. Yahoo is an excellent example of a client who, owing to its scale and, therefore, infrastructure, has some particular technical requirements that preclude our usual “go-to” frameworks and tools. We developed our own micro PHP framework on Yahoo’s custom LAMP stack that integrated tightly with their internal tools and services, including their customised versions of Apache, PHP and associated custom modules. We built micro-sites for Nikon, Mazda and Nokia using these tools, and all with great success. Responsive Web DevelopmentNo longer the sole preserve of the “webmaster”—usually somebody in the IT department who felt like taking on the job or the nephew who was “good with computers”—developing sites and services for the Web has become a severe software engineering discipline. Today’s multi-device websites, or “responsive” as the fashionable jargon would have it, are a technical challenge in themselves, and that’s before you consider integration with a CMS (WordPress, Drupal et al.), performance (network optimisation, browser rendering and so on), accessibility (ARIA) and many other issues too numerous to mention. At Dgtl, we consider all of these and many more when building websites and associated tools and services for our clients, so you can be assured that the finished product not only looks great but is also engineered to the highest standards. Web Development FAQs What is bespoke web development, and how can it benefit my business? Bespoke web development involves creating a custom website or application tailored specifically to your business needs. Unlike off-the-shelf solutions, it allows for complete flexibility and scalability, ensuring the final product aligns perfectly with your goals and provides a unique user experience that sets you apart from competitors. How do I know if I need a bespoke solution instead of using WordPress or Drupal? While WordPress and Drupal are powerful Content Management Systems (CMS) suitable for many projects, they may not meet all specific requirements. If you need advanced functionality, complex integrations, or a highly customized user interface, a bespoke solution might be the best choice to fully realize your vision. What is your experience with custom web development projects? We have extensive experience in bespoke web development, having built custom solutions for clients like Yahoo, Nikon, Mazda, and Nokia. For example, we developed a custom PHP framework for Yahoo’s unique infrastructure, integrating tightly with their internal tools and services. How long does a bespoke web development project typically take? The timeline varies based on the project’s complexity and scope. After understanding your requirements, we’ll provide an estimated timeline that includes planning, development, testing, and deployment phases to ensure timely delivery without compromising quality. What technologies do you use for bespoke web development? We utilize a range of technologies tailored to your project’s needs, including custom PHP frameworks, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and more. We’re also experienced in working with various infrastructures and can adapt to specific technical requirements. Will my website be responsive and mobile-friendly? Absolutely! We prioritize responsive web development to ensure your website looks and functions optimally on all devices—desktops, tablets, and smartphones—providing a seamless user experience across the board. How do you ensure the website is optimized for performance and speed? We implement best practices in network optimization, efficient coding, and browser rendering. By considering performance from the outset, we ensure your website loads quickly and runs smoothly, enhancing user satisfaction and search engine rankings. Can you integrate my bespoke website with other systems or platforms? Yes, we can integrate your website with various third-party services, APIs, databases, and internal systems. Our goal is to create a seamless workflow that enhances your business operations. What is your process for starting a bespoke web development project? We begin by discussing your business goals, target audience, and specific requirements. This is followed by planning and designing the solution, then development and rigorous testing. Throughout the process, we maintain open communication to ensure the project aligns with your vision. How involved will I be in the development process? Your involvement is crucial. We encourage regular feedback and collaboration at each stage—planning, design, development, and testing—to ensure the final product meets your expectations and requirements. Do you offer post-launch support and maintenance? Yes, we provide ongoing support and maintenance services to keep your website updated, secure, and performing optimally. This includes handling updates, fixing issues, and implementing new features as your business grows. How do you handle security and data protection? We prioritize security by implementing robust measures such as secure coding practices, data encryption, regular security updates, and compliance with data protection regulations to safeguard your website and user information. Can you help with SEO and ensuring my website is search-engine friendly? Absolutely! We incorporate SEO best practices into the development process, including optimizing site structure, meta tags, and load times. We can also integrate tools like Yoast SEO for ongoing optimization if using a CMS like WordPress. What if I need changes or additional features in the future? Our bespoke solutions are built with scalability in mind, allowing for easy updates and the addition of new features as your business evolves. We’re always available to assist with future enhancements. How much will a bespoke web development project cost? The cost depends on the project’s complexity, features, and specific requirements. After an initial consultation to understand your needs, we’ll provide a detailed quote outlining all costs involved. Do you provide training on how to use and manage the new website or application? Yes, we offer comprehensive training to help you and your team understand how to manage and update your new website or application, ensuring you can make the most of its features. Will my website be accessible to users with disabilities? We adhere to accessibility standards, such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and ARIA protocols, to ensure your website is accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. Can you develop custom HTML emails for our marketing campaigns? Yes, we have expertise in creating visually appealing and responsive HTML emails that display correctly across a wide range of email clients and devices, enhancing the effectiveness of your email marketing campaigns. How do you handle testing and quality assurance? We conduct thorough testing, including functionality, compatibility across browsers and devices, performance, and security testing. This ensures that your website is reliable, user-friendly, and free of issues before launch. Why should we choose your company for our bespoke web development needs? With decades of experience and a team of seasoned professionals, we offer a combination of technical expertise and personalized service. We’re committed to delivering high-quality, custom solutions that not only meet but exceed your expectations, all while providing exceptional support throughout the project. It supports the overall user experience along with typography, visual design, copy, and tone of voice. It’s about being usable without drawing undue attention to itself. It needs to function well, with no bells and no whistles. Clean, clear, simple, precise. Great user interfaces also need to be flexible (website localisation being a prime example) and scalable to accommodate additional features that may be added later in the product lifecycle. PrototypingThe goal of prototyping is to iron out any interaction issues before we get too far into the web design and coding process. We check interactions and functionality, page layouts, navigation and tone of voice. We always aim to identify key user tasks and goals, then create prototypes to ensure these goals are achievable. This is a very quick way to get feedback and sense-check ideas. It takes very little time to create a paper prototype and can save hours of development time in the long run. User Testing We need to ensure that our target users can achieve their goals as simply and effectively as possible. After investing many hours into designing a product your eyes become used to it. Usability is about getting a fresh perspective through the help of usability testers. When testers come in, we set them specific tasks, enabling us to see the product from their perspective. After testers have shared their insights some small tweaks to a product may be made. Proper communication and feedback ensure that your brand direction and consumer message are well understood. After understanding your company, the conceptual work begins—experimenting with everything from typefaces and fonts to the color palette and theme. This creative process focuses on developing initial concepts that reflect your vision.Next, these concepts are refined into workable designs that are close to the finished product. It's important for you to have several choices to consider, ensuring the final design aligns with your expectations. With your feedback, any final tweaks are made to perfect your desired design. A logo says a lot about a brand, and it's crucial to get it right for you. BrandingBranding is the process of creating a unique image of your product in the minds of consumers. Achieved through advertising campaigns with consistent themes, effective branding establishes a significant and differentiated footing in the market. This helps you attract and retain loyal followers. Many aspects make up a brand: name, logo, tagline, graphics, shapes, colors, sounds, scents, tastes, movements, and customer-relationship management. Often, a combination of these elements is used to create a strong brand identity. For example, the impact of a strong brand can be seen with "Hoover"; their influence is so widespread that many people refer to vacuum cleaners as "hoovers." Brand AwarenessBrand awareness refers to how customers recall your brand in their memory. It consists of brand recognition and brand recall, helping customers understand which product or service category your brand belongs to and what you offer. In highly contested markets, brand awareness is crucial. For customers to consider or follow your brand, they must first be aware of it. Brand IdentityThis is the outward expression of your brand, generally concerned with your brand's name, trademark, communications, and visual appearance. Brand identity reflects how you wish consumers to view your brand. This differs from brand image, which is about customers' perceptions of your brand. Brand identities have the potential to evolve, gaining new attributes from a consumer perspective. Co-brandingCo-branded websites and partnerships make up a large part of the web. Understanding the pros and cons of co-branded products and how to successfully negotiate a co-branded lockup is essential for maximizing your brand's visibility. It's common for the larger partner in a deal to push the smaller brand down the page or below the fold. If you're building your brand, you need to push for as much visibility as possible.Start negotiations with your brand appearing larger and higher up the page than you might ultimately settle for. This strategy gives you room to negotiate. Beginning in the footer leaves little chance of moving up. Brand GuidelinesBrand guidelines are an essential part of your business communications. You've invested a lot of time in your brand and understand the message it should convey. But how do you communicate this to your team, printer, website designer, and others?A simple, usable brand guideline document allows you to communicate all the necessary details to ensure your brand is consistently represented across all media. A typical brand guideline document will cover:Example logos and usage instructionsCo-branded logos and sub-brand lockupsColor palettes and usage guidelinesTypographyPhotography & Illustration – Examples of correct and incorrect usageExample communications such as previous advertising collateralTemplates for flyers and promotional materialWeb templates and social media assetsTone of voiceBy clearly outlining these elements, you ensure that everyone involved in your brand's presentation understands how to represent it correctly, maintaining consistency and strengthening brand recognition.  Logo design FAQs How long does it take to design a logo? Typically, the logo design process takes between 2 to 4 weeks. This timeline includes initial concept development, revisions, and finalization, but can be adjusted based on your schedule and feedback. How much does a logo design cost? The cost of a logo design varies based on your specific needs, the complexity of the design, and the number of revisions required. After discussing your requirements, we’ll provide a detailed quote tailored to your project. What is your logo design process? Our process begins with understanding your brand, industry, and target audience. We then create initial design concepts, refine them based on your feedback, and finalize the logo to perfectly represent your brand identity. Will I own the rights to the logo once it's completed? Yes, upon final payment, you will have full ownership and rights to your logo design. How many logo concepts and revisions are included? We typically provide three initial logo concepts and include up to three rounds of revisions. This ensures you have options and the opportunity to refine the design to your satisfaction. What file formats will I receive for the final logo? You’ll receive your logo in various formats suitable for both print and digital use, including AI, EPS, PDF, PNG, and JPEG files. Can you help update or redesign my existing logo? Absolutely! We can refresh or completely redesign your existing logo to better align with your current brand identity and goals. Do you create brand guidelines along with the logo? Yes, we offer brand guideline development that includes logo usage rules, color palettes, typography, and other elements to ensure consistency across all your marketing materials. How do you ensure the logo reflects my brand identity? We start by conducting a thorough analysis of your business values, mission, and target audience. This insight guides our creative process to produce a logo that truly embodies your brand. What if I'm not satisfied with the initial designs? Your satisfaction is our top priority. We’ll work closely with you to understand your concerns and make necessary adjustments until you’re happy with the final design. Can you incorporate my ideas into the logo design? Absolutely! Your input is invaluable, and we encourage you to share any ideas, sketches, or inspirations you have in mind. Do you offer additional branding services? Yes, we provide a full range of branding services, including business card design, stationery, marketing materials, website design, and more to ensure a cohesive brand presence. What information do you need from me to start? We’ll need details about your business, target audience, industry, brand values, and any specific preferences or ideas you have for the logo. How do we communicate during the project? We can communicate via email, phone calls, or virtual meetings—whichever you prefer. Regular updates will keep you informed throughout the design process. Do you offer support after the logo is delivered? Yes, we’re here to assist with any questions or additional needs you may have after the project is completed, including help with implementing the logo across different platforms. Can you design logos for any industry? Yes, we have experience creating logos for a wide range of industries and can tailor the design to suit your specific market and audience. Will the logo be suitable for different mediums and sizes? Absolutely! We design logos in vector format, ensuring they can be scaled to any size without losing quality, making them suitable for everything from business cards to billboards. How do payments work? Typically, we require a deposit to begin the project, with the remaining balance due upon completion. Payment terms will be clearly outlined in our proposal. Can you help with trademarking the logo? While we don’t handle the trademark registration process, we can design a unique logo suitable for trademarking and guide you on how to proceed with registration. Do you offer rush services if I need a logo quickly? Yes, we can accommodate expedited timelines when necessary. Please let us know your deadline, and we’ll do our best to meet your needs. We create shareable content for businesses of all sizes so get in touch today and see what we can do for you. Why Content Marketing is a Must for your Business In the modern internet-obsessed world, an intuitively designed, responsive and optimised website is a must. You then need to think about how you’re going to drive traffic to this online asset. Organic search engine optimisation is a great way to build long-term traffic, but how will you attract those new customers now? When you’re thinking about your marketing plan, it’s essential you implement both long-term and short-term strategies. Invest all your money in an SEO strategy and you may get some quick wins, but the main thrust of your campaign will not be felt for 6-12 months. So what keeps you ticking in the meantime? Content marketing is a great way to bridge this gap. Not only is it affordable, but it is also a highly effective method of reaching your primary and secondary audience. What is Content Marketing?According to the Content Marketing Institute:“Content marketing is a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience.”Content marketing centres on the creation of blogs, white papers, social media posts, press releases, videos and infographics that are posted online. The aim of this content is not to sell directly to the customer but to inform their buying decisions and increase your brand exposure. It’s essential that content is not created simply for content’s sake. The content must be focused, relevant and answer prospective customers’ questions. It should also engage and encourage customer interaction and ultimately position your business as an authority in its field. Here are a few examples of content marketing in action. How can content marketing help you?Your customers are becoming increasingly tech-savvy, irrespective of the sector your startup is in. According to research conducted in 2014, 81 per cent of shoppers conduct online research before making a purchase. Competition online is fierce, so the likelihood of a customer going straight to your website is slim. But, if your business has a number of content resources online, each targeting a different internet search term, you greatly increase the likelihood of a click. What are the aims of your content marketing campaign?Increasing sales and profitability is the ultimate aim of almost every content marketing campaign. Content marketing can impact your bottom line by:Building brand awarenessCreating quality content will not only make more prospective customers and clients aware of your brand, but it will also add equity and value by positioning your business as an industry expert.Expanding your reachContent marketing allows you to gain exposure to customers and clients not just across the country, but also around the world. This gives you the opportunity to grow your business well beyond your local area.Improving customer relationships and increasing engagementContent should add value to your audience, answer their questions and promote engagement. A brand that helps to solve its customers’ problems, rather than overtly selling to them, will benefit from improved customer relationships.Providing a cost-effective alternative to traditional advertisingMore traditional marketing methods like newspaper and television advertising can be expensive and difficult to measure. Startup businesses will rarely have the budget for offline advertising. Content marketing is extremely cost-effective as it’s not only affordable, but the content you post today will last forever.Increasing trustAs a startup, no one knows who you are and what you stand for. Creating engaging content that conveys your company culture, personality, industry knowledge and your ability to address your clients’ needs will help to build trust. Web development professionals in Farnborough Hampshire WordPress development We’ve been building Wordpress themes and plug-ins for as long as we can remember (well, almost), and it remains a firm favourite with our designers and developers here at Dgtl HQ. Despite its heritage as a blogging tool, WordPress has gone from strengh to strength in recent years to become a good all-round CMS platform, and is particularly well suited for small to medium sized blogging and marketing sites. The content creating and editing tools are feature rich and user friendly, and in our view are WordPress’ single biggest strength. We’re also big fans of the Yoast SEO plugin, which is an essential tool for understanding both how your site’s pages will be seen by search engines, and ensuring they are fully optimised for your target keywords. Drupal development Drupal is a household name in the world of Content Management Systems, and is currently powering some of the Web’s best known websites. We’ve been building sites in Drupal for many years now, from Intranet sites and applications up to The National Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park, so we’re well equipped to take on your next Drupal project. Although Drupal can also be used for small to medium blogs and marketing sites, it really excels when used as a platform for larger community oriented sites where visitor contribution is a key goal, and features a very comprehensive and granular permissions system that offers far greater flexibility than WordPress. HTML email Email marketing is still a big deal, and the most successful campaigns still need the visual appeal that only an HTML email can provide. Building attractive email campaigns that look good on the broadest possible range of email clients and devices is like stepping back in time to the earliest days of the Web—and the original “Browser wars”. Luckily for us, we were building sites back then too (and we’ve got the grey hairs to prove it), so we’re well equipped to take on the challenge. Bespoke Web development Not every kind of web site or application can or should be built in a fully baked content management system or an ‘off the shelf’ framework. Sometimes only a completely custom solution will do, and we’re certainly not afraid to “roll our own” when the project calls for it. Yahoo are a good example of a client who, owing to their scale and therefore infrastructure, have some very specific technical requirements that preclude our usual “go to” frameworks and tools. We developed our own micro PHP framework for use on Yahoo’s custom LAMP stack that integrated tightly with their internal tools and services, including their own customised versions of Apache, PHP and associated custom modules. We built micro-sites for Nikon, Mazda and Nokia using these tools, and all with great success Responsive Web DevelopmentNo longer the sole preserve of the “webmaster”—usually somebody in the IT department who felt like taking on the job, or the nephew who was “good with computers”—developing sites and services for the Web has become a serious software engineering discipline. Today’s multi-device websites, or “responsive” as the fashionable nomenclature would have it, are a technical challenge in themselves, and that’s before you consider integration with a CMS (WordPress, Drupal et al.), performance (network optimisation, browser rendering and so on), accessibility (ARIA) and many other issues too numerous to mention. At Dgtl we take all of these things and many more into consideration when building websites and associated tools and services for our clients, so you can be assured that the finished product not only looks great but is also engineered to the highest standards. It is not enough that we build products that function, that are understandable and usable, we also need to build products that bring joy and excitement, pleasure and fun, and, yes, beauty to people’s lives. Creativity is to discover a question that has never been asked. If one brings up an idiosyncratic question, the answer he gives will necessarily be unique as well. 02 — When you believe a thing, believe it all the way, implicitly and unquestionably. Good designers must always be avant-gardists, always one step ahead of the times. They should–and must–question everything generally thought to be obvious. They must have an intuition for people’s changing attitudes. For the reality in which they live, for their dreams, their desires, their worries, their needs, their living habits. They must also be able to assess realistically the opportunities and bounds of technology. 03 — Design is a solution to a problem. Art is a question to a problem. The future belongs to a different kind of person with a different kind of mind: artists, inventors, storytellers-creative and holistic ‘right-brain’ thinkers whose abilities mark the fault line between who gets ahead and who doesn’t. Prev project Next project ### About (Video) Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works. THE STORY THE STORY When you believe a thing, believe it all the way, implicitly and unquestionably. What we do? Where do new ideas come from? The answer is simple: differences. By doing this we can focus on the unique challenges a store may face and the small details that make them different. 04 — It's never about sell, sell, sell Of course, sales are the lifeblood of a retail business. However, it's value-added content that's key to the longevity of a store. In this instance, we feature the unique distilleries that are behind some of the finest drinks on the market. These small businesses pour their heart and soul into creating some of the finest spirits on the market and we proudly feature them front and centre.
