As part of it’s extensive community activity Nikon asked Yahoo! to build a sponsored competition page aimed primarily at Flickr users and promoting their current I AM NIKON campaign. The competition required that entrants submit up to three photos, each capturing one of the three themes: I AM BRAVE, I AM PART OF THE WORLD and I AM THE PERFECT MOMENT.

Yahoo! supplied initial designs for the site to Dgtl and we proceeded to make them a reality, developing the necessary HTML/CSS and PHP to bring it to life. The competition entry flow was particularly complex, requiring competition entrants to join a specially created group on Flickr, and submit at least one photo to it. We used visual cues, a dynamic form and modal dialogs to ensure the user always knew exactly where they were in the process. We used the Flickr API to determine whether or not the entrant was in the appropriate group and had submitted any photos, and then retrieved those photos for display in the competition form.

Each week the best entries were selected for display in an animated ‘recent entries’ carousel displayed in the page.
